King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla
A majority of Canadians say no
to recognizing King Charles as
the King and Queen Consort
Camilla as the Queen Consort
to recognizing King Charles as
the King and Queen Consort
Camilla as the Queen Consort
Referring to King Charles III as King and Queen Consort Camilla as Queen Consort or Queen are three things that a good number of Canadians just say “no” to.
The folks over at the Angus Reid Institute spent two days, from April 10th to the 12th of this year, via an online survey asking 2,013 grown folks, who are members on the Angus Reid Forum, what they thought about King Charles being King and Camilla being Queen Consort or Queen.
According to the poll, which has a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points, there are 60% of folks who said “no” to calling King Charles King Charles and 60% of folks saying “no” to calling Queen Consort Camilla Queen Consort Camilla or Queen Camilla.
The number of folks who are cool with calling King Charles King are 40%, and the total number of people who are cool with calling Queen Consort Camilla Queen Consort or Queen is 40%.
The saltiness towards the King and his Queen Consort is due to folks not liking all of that “cheating in the next room” that then Prince and other woman were doing while the then Prince was married to Princess Diana.
Sure, all of that “sneaking around the corner” happen some 30, 40 odd years ago but folks don’t care. They love Princess Diana. Therefore, whenever folks see King Charles with his Queen Consort, Camilla, all they think about is how Princess Diana should be the one sitting next to him as the Queen Consort of the United Kingdom.
The good news for the King is that there are some folks cool with calling his Queen Consort his Queen Consort or his Queen. According to the Angus-Reid Institute poll there are 19% of folks who are cool with calling Queen Consort Camilla Queen Consort, followed by 2% points more saying they’ll give a thumbs up to calling her Queen Camilla.
The only way the Canadians can get around to not calling King Charles King and Queen Consort Camilla Queen Consort is by amending the Canadian constitution so that they can separate from the throne.
In order to amend the Constitution, the House of Commons, the Senate, and all 10 provinces will have to agree. Based on the Angus-Reid Institute’s poll, there are 52% who say it’s time to separate from the throne compared to 27% who say they like being attached to the throne and the 21% who are like, “Who cares!”
Amongst the people, the support is there to say, “Deuces,” to the British throne. The problem comes in when it’s time for parliament and the provinces to vote. The folks in government know they must have a plan that will keep the country afloat after they separate from the throne. They will need to determine the role of the new government, the role of the provinces and individual cities and towns, and the rights of the citizens. There is also the question of how their economy and military will be affected by the changes.
Governing isn’t easy. And as things stand, governing officials don’t have a plan that will allow them to have a smooth transition from the throne to complete independence.
Therefore, calling King Charles III King and Queen Consort Camilla Queen Consort is what the Canadians will be doing…for now!
